Talks and Educational Workshops
Bring me in for in-person and virtual educational workshops, collaborative songwriting, or speaking engagements!
I taught at Boston Arts Academy for 7 years, where I developed and updated curricula for music history, music theory, ethnomusicology, and creative writing. Some of the workshops and talks I offer include:
Songwriting
Participants work together over 2-4 sessions to generate ideas for and create a short song on a topic. Adaptable for different age groups and levels of musical experience.
Any age group
Creating Together: Community, social justice, and the arts
A workshop exploring how the arts and social justice can intersect, including examples, a discussion of artistic responsibility, and developing hypothetical (and perhaps one day, real) arts-activist projects.
High school and older
Climate and Music
A songwriting series with a specialized focus on climate and community. Over 2-6 sessions, participants explore local climate impacts and collaboratively write a new song.
Middle school and older
Sound Collage/Human Drum Kit
Participants identify and recreate rhythms in two songs before generating their own original patterns with their bodies and classroom materials.
Any age group
An Introduction to the Orchestra
Learn about the orchestra’s different instrument families, from strings to brass and woodwinds, with demonstrations on 3-5 instruments and chance to play them.
Any age group
