Happy birthday Britten!

Today, the inimitable Benjamin Britten turns 100! If you're unfamiliar with his music, I highly recommend you listen to some, as Britten was one of the most original and refreshing voices of the middle 20th century. Click this link for an introduction to his music. And to cap this post off, here's the excellent 3rd movement from his String Quartet No.3, Op. 94:

Call for Scores!

The Southwest Guilford HS Wind Ensemble (High Point, NC) is looking for new pieces for its chamber/solo concert and/or its full band concerts this fall. I'm working with the director, Kenny Butler, to bring new music to this public high school in North Carolina. Although we don't have any funds available to pay for travel or commissions, we can get you a performance and a recording. You are, of course, more than welcome to attend the performance in any case!

Check here for dates, guidelines, and additional details.

New recordings

The live recording of the Brattle Street Chamber Players' premiere of "Shaheed" is now in the orchestra page, and a recording from a session with a few Boston-area jazz musicians of my new piece "A Rose for Violet" is available in the chamber/solo section. As you may have noticed, I've been moving the site's music to SoundCloud, a great service which lets you see the shape of the sound of a piece and lets people comment on certain moments in the piece.  I highly recommend you check it out if you have a few minutes!

As always, thanks for reading!
